OHPPBT March 6th 2010 Tournament results on Old Hickory Lake

FOR THE HOTEL RESERVATIONS FOR KENTUCKY LAKE AND GUNTERSVILLE TOURNAMENTS CHECK OUT THE FORUM FOR CONTACT INFO.

I know we started off a little bit slow but we were amazed by the turn out. Please be patient as we are not the BFL or Bassmasters. We do not have a team of paid staff or a weigh in trailer. All tournament helpers are anglers just like you, except they show up 2.5 hours early, participate and come in with in 15 minutes prior to of the end of the tournament, then stay to take it all down. . We also must keep in mind that you are only paying $25.00 per person,  and not big money like national series that charges $100.00- -$2500.00 per person. With our door prizes and fish off prizes we pay back over 200%.  The OHPPBT has grown over 130% in just the past 14 months. There will be minor growing pains and this is why we closed the membership a little early this year to help us slow the growth of Nashville's hottest bass tournament. We started off the day with a breakfast buffet @ The Black Pearl at Black Jack Cove Marina on Old Hickory Lake. The morning was chilly at only 25 degrees f. We were holding our first tournament on Old Hickory Lake  for the 2010 season. Black Jack Cove Marina is our new location for this lake during the 2010 season. We were served a buffet style breakfast that started around 4:30 am. The Marina Restaurant (The Black Pearl) will be opened up 2 hours prior to our scheduled blast off time to offer the buffet to OHPPBT for each Old Hickory Lake tournaments. We are very lucky to have a facility of its caliber to host our events. The single lane ramp is scheduled to be replaced by a double lane ramp and also new asphalt in the parking lot is set for the fall of 2010. We had 89 boats blast off around 6:34 am and we fished until 1:30 pm. The weather ended up very nice but the fishing was still cold for most of us. It was very tough as the fish were still hard to find. Many anglers did not even get a bite. Only 29 boats had fish with only 2 ( 5 fish bags) limits weighed in. 17 boats of the 29 boats only had 1 fish. We appreciate all of your patience as we are still learning our new high tech Pro Tournament Scales with Taysys Software. We have taken steps to assure the sign up and weigh in goes much faster and will be implemented during our next tournament. We gave out over 38 door prizes ($1600.00 worth) as well as paying the prize money out to the top 5 places, 2 big fish places and the Secret Weapon Prize Pack Winner to 6th place.  Brad Chapman of Tornado Termite & Pest Control/OHPPBT Director Donated and extra $230.00 towards the pay out for this tournament. (it was divided up and paid as part of the pay out for 1-5 and 2 big fish winners) We did have a few learning curves at our new location but over all it went very well. If you would like to launch from another ramp to avoid the lines to launch please feel free to. We will have a livewell checker at the end of the fuel dock for each event. Please make sure and read all the rules to familiarize yourself with them. Knowing your boat number is very important. Per the rules and in the future (as posted on our Forum & Rules on our site) if you give your wrong boat number, your out of luck. If you were supposed to win money, we will donate that money to the fish off. This will help make things go smoother and stop any confusion. Black Jack Cove Marina provided the OHPPBT with a release boat for our bass to be relocated outside of the (no fishing zone in the marina).  I want to thank all of our sponsors and all of the event workers as they are very dedicated to the OHPPBT and I want them to know that I appreciate all they do. I also want to thank all of our sponsors. If you want to know who gives discounts or deals to members check out the "our sponsors" tab on the main page of our site. Well here are the tournament results for all those who caught fish. The Points Standing have also been updated on this site under the "Points Standings" tab. Again thanks for your patience and we will see you on the water.

These are only the 29 boats out of the 89 boats that weighed in fish.

February 20th 2010 OHPPBT Percy Priest Lake Results.

JUST A REMINDER, DON'T FORGET TO BUY YOUR 2010 FISHING LICENSE!

Black Jack Cove Marina (previously Old Hickory Marina) on Old Hickory Lake will open The Black Pearl(The Black Pearl is their restaurant at the marina)  2 hours prior to our blast off times to serve OHPPBT Members a $5.95 breakfast buffet.  We had our first tournament of the 2010 Old Hickory Percy Priest Bass Tournament (OHPPBT) season. We had asked everybody via our web site to send their membership in prior to the morning of the tournament. Most responded to our request and sent them in by mail or at our 2 meetings and we greatly appreciated it. We are not going to be accepting any new membership forms that are post marked after February 24th 2010. Returning OHPPBT Members from 2009 will be accepted until March 5th 2010 the day before our next tournament. As per our rules we have posted this change in our membership deadline on line. We made that change in dates due to the extreme increase in membership for this year. We have grown our membership by over 100% and increased sponsors by over 1000% (One thousand %) in the 1 and a half years since I have taken over. We have done this by great sponsors and tournament helpers. The other key to our success is the increase and keeping of our sponsors. That is due to all of the members using the sponsors and letting them know when we are spending money with them. Look under the our sponsors section of our site to learn about how your membership card can save you money at certain sponsors locations. You can pick up your membership cards at the first tournament you fish after your membership is accepted. I also want to thank OHPPBT's Assistant Director Scott Thorpe, and our tournament workers: Dayton Wauford Jr., Bob Parry, Brad Robinson, Don Graham, Bill Leaverton, Eric Walls, Detroit Brown, and any other members that helped out. I can not tell you how much we appreciate your commitment and effort you put in to making this a great success and my hats off to all of you.

Well here is what you were waiting for. We had fresh Dunkin Donuts and they were great. Even though it was cold 61 boats show up to fish on Percy Priest Lake. Based on those numbers in the cold morning I would predict we will have around 75 boats per tournament in 2010. The weather was a bit chilly in the morning as it was only 26 degrees. The weather ended up being very nice with a light wind. It ended up with partly sunny and 56 degrees. The fishing was rather slow. Okay slow may be an understatement. I know that most of us never even got a bite. This was the conditions in our tournament as it was in others on Percy Priest Lake. I was told The Renegade Bass Tournament that was held out of Fate Sanders with around 50 boats and first place was reported as being won by under 12 pounds. The Old Hickory Bass Anglers on Old Hickory Lake was reported to have 67 Boats with under 9 pounds taking fist place. With all that being said it was tough. The OHPPBT had only 20 fish brought to the scales. We did not even have a 5 fish limit this event. We did have a nice sack of 4 fish brought to the scales to take first place with over 13 pounds. Only 15 boats brough fish to the scales. We paid out 5 places, 1st & 2nd Big Fish, and Secret Weapon gave the 6th place a Secret Weapon Prize Pack. We also gave out over $1500.00 in free door prizes (around 35 winners) distributed by random drawings. The grand door prize for this event was a Dobyns Rod with a retail value of over $240.00 (the winner was happy). Thanks again to all of our sponsors and I am very proud to be involved in a tournament of this calibur. Well here are the top 15 of the event (the only ones to bring fish to the scales). The report below does not have points posted. The points are now posted  under the "Points Standings" tab, in the 2010 section.

These are the results for all the anglers who brought fish to the scales. A full list of participants are listed under points standings.

OVER $30,000.00 IN PRIZES TO BE GIVEN OUT IN 2010 PLUS THE PRIZE MONEY!

I just calculated the value of the door prizes and certificates that we will give out at each tournament. WOW, $1350.00 in door prizes at each of our 15 tournaments = over $20,000.00 in door prizes in addition to the prize money. That does not include the Fish Off prizes that will be $8,500.00 - $10,500.00 in addition to the prize money. That makes the grand total of door prizes for the 2010 season will be $28,500.00 to $31,500.00 plus the prize money. All this for only a $25.00 annual membership and a $25.00 per person tournament entry.  All participants of the Fish Off will get a minimum of a $50.00 prize. Thanks to all of our great sponsors we are the hottest tournament in town. The OHPPBT is growing by leaps and bounds. I spoke with several senior members and we do not want the Fish Off to get over $8,000.00 or so in prize money. (not counting the prizes)  We will This will make the Fish Off total money & prizes valued up to $18,500.00 (just the Fish Off) We will use any additional money to buy items from our sponsors at special discounted prices to make the prizes at the Fish Off even better. We are a very different bass tournament as we are not wanting people to be here for the money. We will pay around $2000.00 for 1st place at the Fish Off and will pay out a total of 17- 20 cash prizes.   1st - 10th places, then AOY, Big Fish of the year (1st & 2nd) and another 6-10 $100.00  blind draw prizes. We thank all of our great sponsors for making this a record year. When Don Graham, Bob Parry, Brad Robinson, Scott Thorpe, Troy "Detroit" Brown, Dayton Wauford Jr., and myself (Brad Chapman) got together and divided up the prizes and made up the bags we were amazed. The amount of high quality items we have to give away is amazing. I appreciate all everyone does to help out to make this what it is. I want to especially thank my wife Shonna Chapman. The amount of time this takes to make this happen at this level is far more involved than I ever had imagined. She is very supportive and also helps out all the time. I want to also thank my two daughters Taylor and Mackenzie for the help and patience they give also. Scott Thorpe has really stepped up this year as well. With out the support of all of you this would not be possible. Black Jack Cove, Rivergate Toyota, Academy Sports & Outdoors and all the other sponsors have really stepped up this year. We need to step up as well and spend our money with them.  We have more members as of February 19th 2010 than we did last year. We will more than likely not take any new members for 2011 (next year) In closing I want all anglers, sponsors, family and friends involved to give themselves a big hand.   Let us all remember that with out the constant protection of the men and women in the U.S. Military and D.O.D. Employees we would not have this freedom. Take the time to thank those who make sacrifices for our Freedom. God Bless and Thanks, Brad Chapman, OHPPBT Director.
